We surveyed over 380 parents to see if Martial Arts training is beneficial for children?

Specifically, we asked parents the following questions.

Parents Comments

While surveys give a comprehensive view of data, I added a field where parents could put their own comments about how Martial Arts Training has benefited their child.

We had hundreds of comments, and as such, only a small selection is below:

"It has taught my daughter how to channel her emotions in a positive and non-violent way. Whilst I’m confident she could handle herself in an confrontational situation, her training means she seeks peaceful resolution. She is fit, has an amazing body awareness and very much enjoys the social interaction of a class. "

"Our children have learned how to be more responsible and respectful. They help their teammates out. They behave better since they earned their advanced belts. They know that their teacher will take their belts away if we tell him they haven’t been behaving. "

"Teaching them to push themselves beyond what their limits are. It gives the confidence that things are achievable with hard work"

"Keeps them off the streets & teaches them things which they will carry for life.

"My daughter has learned discipline and commitment."

"I think it boosts confidence, teaches respect and discipline, it’s a good all-round exercise too. Best sport a child can do."

"Fortunately, our daughter is fairly well-rounded and well behaved in most situations and therefore attending Martial Arts had other benefits for us. Her strength and determination have definitely improved and the 'never give up' slogan is fed through each session."

"Builds confidence and awareness of danger"

"Instils respect and discipline while learning"

"My child’s confidence has soared since starting mma/jiu jitsu. He now competes and loves it."

"Should be taught in schools"

"It's great exercise and that alone would be brilliant for any adult and child let alone the confidence and concentration it develops."

"I think it is great for kids, it instils discipline, self-confidence, respect, the list is endless."

"Children need to learn to defend themselves"

"Best thing I ever did getting my boys into karate"

"Excellent for confidence - when my boy was 4 he had serious attachment issues and wouldn't speak/interact with anyone apart from me. Now at 8 he's confident and won't shut up!!!"

Conclusion

It is without a doubt that parents feel that children will benefit from Martial Arts training and a staggering amount of parents report improvements in their child's concentration and behaviour.

Martial Arts is important and as demonstrated by this survey is that Martial Arts deliver tangible improvements for children who undertake them.

Perhaps it really is time they became compulsory in schools.
